Awake and Wise
Uncertain times define our lives, and fear often accompanies the unknown. Today, many of us worry about our own well-being, our loved ones, and the suffering of others facing distress, injury, separation, and hatred.
The challenge before us is to address the certainty of suffering in these uncertain times. Suffering is a curable heart disease, needing a transplant through mindfulness and heartfulness. Healing the heart requires understanding the mind. Our mind is a reflection of society; we are inseparable from the world around us.
We must ask ourselves how to cultivate thoughts and beliefs that honor the dignity of all life. How do we ensure justice without perpetuating harm and hate? How can we calm our hearts in a world filled with ignorance, ill will, and violence? Our actions must mirror the world we wish to create for future generations. This involves responding with both heart and mind, remaining awake and wise.
A practice that supports awareness and well-being is the practice of doing no harm. This involves aligning our heart and mind with our actions, beyond mere words. It is a lifelong practice that requires regular reflection and commitment. Setting an intention to do no harm in our speech, actions, and thoughts is crucial.
Maintaining such a contemplative practice is a step towards fostering a culture of care and contributing to an atmosphere of kindness.
