Cosmic Perspective
God's presence, the Christ, has always been with us, woven into the fabric of the universe from the very beginning. In Jesus, this divine blueprint became visible, guiding us toward a life of wholeness and truth. The concept of "fullness," or pleroma, in the New Testament reveals that we are not just observers of this divine reality but participants in it. We are filled with the utter fullness of God, sharing in the inherent dignity and empowerment that comes from this deep connection.
The evolving universe calls us to expand our understanding of God beyond the confines of human history. We are part of a cosmic journey, a process that has been unfolding for billions of years. This requires us to embrace a new consciousness that integrates the realities of the Big Bang, biological evolution, and the ever-expanding universe into our spiritual and intellectual lives.
Theology, if it is to speak meaningfully about a living God, must begin with this evolutionary perspective. It must acknowledge that physical, spiritual, and psychological change is fundamental to reality. Einstein's discovery of relativity tells us that space-time is part of this unfinished, expanding universe, and so our understanding of God must also be dynamic and expansive.
By embracing this cosmic perspective, we deepen our knowledge and come to see the divine not just in human history but in the vastness of cosmic history. We are invited to move beyond static, archaic images of God and awaken to a vision of the divine that is ever-evolving, interconnected, and richly expressed in the rhythms of the cosmos. This is a call to seek truth not just within ourselves, but within the boundless, dynamic universe in which we are all deeply related.
