The story of isolation reflects a universal experience of separation from others, God, the earth, and even ourselves. While Jesus challenged this narrative by sending his followers to be agents of positive change, he also demonstrated the need for peace and quiet. This highlights the legitimate need for inner contemplation. Contemplation, as opposed to isolation, allows us to disrupt unhelpful stories and find a space within ourselves for tending and growth. It enables us to let go of our own narratives and connect with a deeper, more authentic love. Instead of withdrawing from the world, we are called to be fully immersed in it, discerning light and shadow, and actively contributing to the common good.
May we find the strength to embrace contemplation over isolation,
to disrupt unhelpful narratives,
and to connect with a deeper,
more authentic love as we actively
contribute to the common good.
