The word "compassion" originates from the Latin roots com and pati, meaning "to suffer with." We must integrate the suffering of others with our own, a fundamental aspect of being human. To sustain compassion, we require equanimity, serving as a buffer between our core and the pain we encounter. This enables us to empathize without being overwhelmed, fostering a deeper connection. In the face of immense suffering, taking action, no matter how small, can alleviate despair. Reflect on the impact you can have on others, both known and unknown, and consider the ripple effect of your actions. This reflection helps to keep our hearts open amidst the ongoing suffering in the world.
May we integrate the suffering of others with our own, cultivate equanimity, take meaningful action, and reflect on the impact of our kindness, allowing our hearts to remain open amidst the world's ongoing suffering.
