Face Hard Truths
When we encounter perspectives that challenge our assumptions, it can feel unsettling, even infuriating. It’s easy to dismiss what makes us uncomfortable, but true growth happens when we choose to engage deeply with those challenges. As Christians, our faith calls us to face hard truths, especially when those truths point to the suffering of others that we may have had a hand in, whether directly or indirectly.
The world looks different from the vantage point of those who live in oppression, poverty, and struggle. Their reading of Scripture often highlights liberation and justice in ways that we, in positions of privilege, overlook. Our task is to listen. Not just to the words we find comfortable, but to the voices of those whose experiences reflect the heart of the biblical message more clearly than our own might.
Transformation happens when we accept that we don’t have all the answers. It happens when we are willing to have our worldview shaken, to see the world through the eyes of those who are oppressed, and to recognize that God's voice speaks loudest in places of pain, demanding justice and compassion. We must open ourselves to these voices, for in doing so, we draw closer to the true heart of our faith.
