Reflecting on our educational journey, the historical narrative unfolded through the lens of domination. Empires asserting dominance, explorers dispatched to conquer the world—our understanding of history shaped by tales of control. Even within our religious upbringing, the notion that Christianity should reign supreme prevailed. The theological image of God as the ultimate dominating force, demanding submission, left a lasting impression. This perspective, rooted in self-centeredness, perpetuates systems based on White supremacy, misogyny, and oppression. The Genesis narrative, often associated with domination, offers an alternative interpretation. Dominion, not domination, is the call—an invitation to stewardship and permission-giving power. Embracing this distinction fosters a more harmonious coexistence.
May we find the grace to embrace stewardship over exploitation,
fostering a harmonious coexistence rooted in understanding and compassion.
