The idea of a downward journey contradicts our Western ideals of progress and success. We resist it, preferring to strive upward. Yet, the Perennial Tradition insists on its truth. This descent, though uncomfortable, is necessary for spiritual growth. Ironically, we often grow more from our mistakes than our successes. This truth challenges conventional religious thinking, which often prioritizes outward perfection over inner transformation. Jesus' teachings emphasize the value of humility and vulnerability, qualities often overlooked in our pursuit of status. To truly ascend spiritually, we must first descend into the depths of our own humanity, confronting our flaws and embracing our vulnerabilities.
May we find the courage to embrace the discomfort of descending
into the depths of our humanity, knowing that it is
through this journey of humility and vulnerability
that true spiritual growth and transformation are realized.
