Contemplation trains us to see with greater clarity, not just by looking, but by recognizing and appreciating what is before us. This way of seeing does not dictate conclusions; instead, it helps us hold reality with openness. We become less trapped by our binary thinking, which often oversimplifies and distorts. Developing this kind of awareness requires patience and practice. When we observe our reactions honestly, we may notice how often we default to mistrust, judgment, or cynicism. To let the moment teach us, we must allow ourselves to be at least slightly stunned by it until it draws us inward and upward, toward a subtle experience of wonder. Contemplation helps us pause before those reactions take hold. In that pause, we create space for something new to emerge—something we may not have expected. In this way, we become more present, more open, and better prepared to engage the world with curiosity and respect.
