We are learning to trust that loving surrender softens our hearts. When we stop resisting pain and stop trying to manage everything, something changes in us. Good Friday reminds us that death is real, but not final. In Jesus’ death, we see love given freely, not demanded or earned. That kind of love disarms us. It shifts how we see ourselves and the world. It confirms what we already sense: we are held by something greater, something that does not abandon us. It is God within us that makes us desire and seek God. We don’t need to control everything. We are already joined to God. With softened hearts, we can be present to suffering—our own and others’—and respond with mercy, not fear. This is how we are changed.
May the God within us,
who stirs our longing and leads us in love,
guide us toward trust, mercy, and surrender.
(inspired by Richard Rohr, Adam’s Return; The Universal Christ; Things Hidden)
