Jesus often spoke of the kingdom, emphasizing its contrast to worldly kingdoms. This kingdom belongs to the poor, the peacemakers, the merciful, and those who seek God. It elevates the marginalized and crosses all boundaries. It advances through love, joy, peace, mercy, kindness, and humility. The kingdom began with a humble birth, forgiveness, and resurrection. Reflecting on the church's flaws throughout history, we might feel disillusioned. Yet, the church is called to manifest God's kingdom. The church, or ekklesia, means the gathered people of God. We are called from old ways into this new community. The church's purpose is to reveal the kingdom, offering glimpses through our gatherings and sacraments. Despite our imperfections, we strive to embody the kingdom in our actions.
May we, as the gathered people of God,
strive to manifest the kingdom through
our actions of love, peace, and humility.
