We realize our utter dependence on God and the grace that comes through others. While psychological growth leads to autonomy, spiritual growth unveils our reliance on the Divine and fellow beings. The psychological revolution prioritized subjectivity, making the self the reference point. However, this approach risks treating the subjective as objective truth and the self as the unassailable ground. The enduring philosophical traditions distinguish existence from essence, viewing feelings, hurts, and experiences as means, not ends. Healthy spirituality guides us through the ever-changing psyche to the unchanging Spirit, where no one, including the self, needs blame, shame, or worship. True freedom lies in recognizing our interdependence and embracing the Mystery.
May we embrace the Mystery,
acknowledging our utter dependence on God
and the grace through others,
and find true freedom in recognizing our interdependence.
