We have experienced moments where our shared attention became so focused that we forgot ourselves. In observing other beings, we were drawn out of our own concerns and into their world. We spent time deeply observing their habits and way of life. This sustained focus brought us into a state of self-forgetfulness, where we were fully present. In that presence, something happened. Our love for these creatures, and our mindful attention to them, seemed to make the world a little better. By slowing down and giving them our full awareness, we saw the world differently. Could that be why many people join one another, and perhaps even join their Creator, in loving these creations? In this connection, we understood that loving deeply, even across species, brings healing to the world. Love is transformative.
May our love for all beings draw us closer to one another,
to creation, and to the divine,
healing the world through our shared attention.
