We are surrounded by people every day, in the streets, on public transport, and in countless other spaces. Each person carries their own burdens, joys, and complexities. In a moment of deep clarity, we might recognize the shared humanity in everyone—the interconnectedness of all lives across time and space. Realization of our oneness is the only cure for human loneliness. This recognition brings with it a responsibility to approach others with reverence and compassion, even when their actions seem difficult to understand. We are all part of something larger, and each life has meaning. While such moments of insight may fade, the challenge remains: to actively seek this deeper connection in others and within ourselves, even when it requires effort and persistence. Together, we honor our shared humanity.
May we live in the profound truth of our shared oneness,
finding connection and purpose in every life we encounter.
(inspired by Caryll Houselander, A Rocking-Horse Catholic)
As Joyce Vance likes to say, we are all in this together.
