Parables challenge us to think differently. They disrupt our usual patterns and push us beyond what feels logical or fair. Too often, we resist their challenge, forcing them into our existing mindset or dismissing them entirely. When we do this, we block their ability to transform us. God’s justice is really magnanimity, being more than fair to everybody because God is being true to God’s nature. The parable of the laborers reminds us that God’s justice isn’t transactional. It’s rooted in generosity, not merit. God’s justice, however, operates on unconditional love, offering everyone what they need to grow. If we truly open ourselves to the Spirit, we can begin to embody this radical justice. It’s not easy, but the Gospel insists it’s possible.
May we embrace the Spirit’s call to embody God’s justice,
rooted in unconditional love and relentless generosity.
