We acknowledge that an infinite God seeks intimacy with our souls. This divine union, marked by mystery and tenderness, demands our vulnerability. In our sorrow and need, we reveal our deepest secrets and desires. This mutual self-disclosure broadens our being and brings us closer to divine love. When we stop hiding from God, ourselves, and others, we experience true intimacy. This risky self-disclosure is essential for transmitting love. We doubt we can be intimate with God if we have never shared ourselves with another. True intimacy, whether in sexuality or celibacy, is the gateway to divine and human love.
May we embrace vulnerability and mutual self-disclosure,
opening ourselves to the divine love that broadens our being
and deepens our intimacy with God and one another.
(inspired by: Richard Rohr, Human Intimacy and Divine Union)
An infinite God desires closeness with the human soul. In this union, the intimate language of lovers emerges: mystery, tenderness, singularity, specialness, nakedness, risk, ecstasy, longing, and suffering. Saints speak this language. Our deepest secrets and desires are revealed in sorrow, failure, and need, feeling safe in love's embrace. This vulnerability expands our being. Without it, we remain small. Only in such tenderness can God reveal the divine essence. The self-sufficient remain outside this mystery. True intimacy unfolds when we stop hiding from God, ourselves, and another, risking rejection to discover love's true temple.
