In our brief time here, we’re called to learn one thing: to love as deeply and fully as possible. Love is our source, the core of our being, and our ultimate purpose. When we engage in contemplative practice, we quiet ourselves and become aware of the presence of God within and around us. In each breath, we receive God’s love and offer our own. From the reciprocity of love, destiny is fulfilled, and the foundations of suffering are healed. When we feel anxiety, we let that love touch it. We breathe in God’s acceptance of us, anxiety and all, and we breathe out our acceptance back. Love grounds us, even as our struggles persist. This practice reminds us to be channels of love in our lives and to others.
May we live grounded in the reciprocity of love,
where our purpose is fulfilled,
and the foundations of suffering are healed.
(inspired by James Finley, Practice That Grounds Us in the Sustaining Love of God)
