We cannot separate contemplation from the world around us. To live authentically as contemplatives means engaging deeply with humanity's pain and injustice. Silence is not an escape; it is preparation. In the struggle for justice, we draw strength from the sacred stillness within, allowing God to steady us for action. The Civil Rights Movement exemplified this. Its leaders and participants combined prayer, reflection, and nonviolent resistance, embodying contemplation in motion. Their courage was rooted in inner silence, fueling their steps toward justice. Each act of resistance proclaimed human dignity and God's call to transform the world. As we face present injustices, we must do the same: ground ourselves in stillness and respond with unwavering resolve.
May we draw strength from sacred stillness,
grounding ourselves in God’s presence to act
with courage and compassion for justice in the world.
