Vast and Personal
We find ourselves deeply yearning for a connection with a God who is both beyond our understanding and intimately close to us. This duality is reflected in the Christian understanding of Jesus and Christ. Jesus offers us a face and a heart to trust, grounding our faith in a relatable human experience. Christ, on the other hand, embodies God's presence in all of creation, existing before and beyond time.
Faith serves as a profound way of knowing and one of life's greatest teachers. Our journey to understand God reveals that proving God's existence is an impossible task. If we could reduce God to a single concept or proof, He would not be the ultimate. Faith, however, assures us that God exists. Our spirits demand a God who is both vast and personal. He must be limitless and all-encompassing, holding everything from the immense galaxies to the smallest blade of grass within His grasp. Simultaneously, we need to feel personally cared for, not alone or abandoned in the universe.
Faith assures us that God is the fundamental reality from which everything else gains meaning. When Jesus prayed, he felt a profound connection with God's Presence, more significant than the act of prayer itself. This awareness made God the answer to all of life's issues for Jesus. When we genuinely seek God with our hearts and minds and give ourselves in prayer, we too encounter His Presence. This experience confirms for us the truth of Jesus's relationship with God.
In our spiritual journey, this understanding transforms us. It encourages us to view the world and our place in it through the lens of boundless love and connection. By recognizing God's presence in everything, we cultivate a deeper compassion and a greater sense of responsibility towards each other and all of creation. This awareness can inspire us to live more harmoniously and to act with greater kindness and empathy.
