Engaging with younger generations about current challenges is crucial. They express grief and anger towards older generations for past inaction. Apologies are necessary for the difficulties they’ve inherited. One of the things to appreciate from students is that they are not in denial, and they are not frozen. Their refusal to deny or be paralyzed by these issues is inspiring. Many have moved beyond panic to action, asking, “What can I do in my community right now?” This commitment to immediate, local impact is admirable. Learning from their concerns about unsustainable practices, such as the linear economy and fast fashion, is essential. Staying open to their perspectives and knowledge helps bridge the gap in understanding. Intergenerational dialogue is vital. Listening to their experiences and ideas fosters collaboration in finding solutions, recognizing their courage and resilience in facing these challenges.
May we honor the courage and resilience of younger generations
by listening to their voices, learning from their insights,
and working together to create a more sustainable future.
